Marantz 2500 Values

Marantz 2500 Sale

I was recently looking at Marantz receivers recently and noticed one on eBay that was listed for $9000. Yes, $9000.00. It is a Marantz 2600 which is of course very hard to find and they don’t come up for sale very often. This particular unit is completely mint and fully restored. Still, $9000 is a lot to drop on a vintage receiver. It got me wondering what the Marantz 2500 sells for nowadays so I jumped on eBay and did a little research.

Marantz 2500 Values

Four Marantz 2500 receivers actually sold in July on eBay. The lowest priced unit sold for $750.00 and, while it was in working condition it did have some significant cosmetic flaws. The faceplate had quite a few nicks and scuffs and the tuning wheel look to have rust along the edge. It was also listed as a pick up only with no shipping available which definitely hurts the value.

Another 2500 sold for $1699.00. It had been partially tested and was fairly clean but did have some faceplate wear. All the auction pictures were blurry so it was difficult to tell the true condition of the receiver which probably hurt its value.

Next up was a pretty clean 2500 with the original box. It, too, was only partially tested and “worked” so the buyer was taking some risk. The unit sold for $1782.00.

At the top of the heap was a Marantz 2500 that was in mint condition and functioned perfectly. It also had the original box. It sold for $2850.00. Here’s the seller’s description:

I have two of these monster receivers. The receiver I have been using is the multi voltage one. This one is my back up American receiver that rarely saw any play time.

RARELY WILL YOU FIND A RECEIVER IN THIS CONDITION!
SPECTACULAR CONDITION!
LITTLE USAGE!
OCCASIONALLY IT WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE BOX TO CHECK IT’S FUNCTIONALITY!
THE POTENTIOMETERS HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND LUBED TWICE IN THE PREVIOUS YEARS!
NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN REPLACED!
EVERYTHING IS ORIGINAL!
ALL FUNCTIONS WORK AS THEY SHOULD!
NO DINGS OR DENTS!
SPOTLESS INTERIOR!
ORIGINAL STYROFOAM INSERTS!
ORIGINAL BOX!

Quite a description. The pictures were excellent as well and included a pic of the inside which was extremely clean. I would think that at this time this would be around the top end price for a Marantz 2500. So, if you don’t want to spend $9000.00 on a Marantz 2600 perhaps you should consider picking up a nice 2500 for a lot less.

  1. Hi I bought that marantz 2500 in your artcle. It is 10 out of 10 cosmetics and no time on it. It is at a profesional tech’s as I write this. I will have to spend $1000 to get it back to factory specs. All vintage receivers parts go bad after so many years even in perfect storage and no time on them.So when you buy one keep this in mind. Speaker crossovers are the same way(20 yrs max)just had my klipsch cornwall 2’s rebuilt. I have marantz 2500-3 kenwood kr 9050’s very good receivers and a kenwood kr 9600 with trio-ta 200 makes it 200 wpc.

    1. Wow! That’s an awesome Marantz. You just don’t see too many in that kind of condition any more. Once back to spec it will certainly be one of the best around!

    1. It is. I have one and it’s paired to my Klipsch Bells and the sound is AMAZING. Found another one and it too was amazing but didn’t need two of them.
Also have a fully restored Sony STR 7045 paired to Wharfedale 70 anniversary speakers that sound absolutely amazing. To very different receivers but paired perfectly.
As an experiment I swapped the two receivers and it sounded horrible on both speakers. Back to original.
Enjoy your Marantz! Pairing is very important.

  2. I have a Marantz 2500 still in box that has never been used, it is 30 years old, and I just took it out to take a picture, I also have the Marantz speakers 880, turntable TT4000 and cassette deck 5030B, everything is still in boxes and packaging. If there is anyone out there looking for a rare find

  4. I have a 2500 that has just been serviced. Comes with original box and packaging. Todd you have any interest?

  5. My father recently passed away and he had a 2500. There is a little cosmetic work to be done and I can’t find the box. The thing weighs a ton! What should I do with it. I would like to sell it and would certainly ship it if the buyer helped out with the shipping.
    Thanks
    Lee

  6. I have a Marantz 2500 for sale, it has been in a box (not original) for some years as we travel around and now that we are sorting thru stuff we decided to sell it. It probably needs tuned up and slight cleaning, the balance knob is missing and it may need a whole new one altogether, other than that looks good. Please contact me if interested smfrccp at gmail.con. Thank you!

  7. Hi Steve,I am also interested in your marantz 2500 if you still have it . I would like to know more about it.
    Thanks,,,Terry

  8. Andrea,if these are all in factory sealed boxed ,there is going to be some real problems with a couple of the units. The cassette decks belt will have disinagrated into a rubber gue,i am not sure if it can be cleaned off the tape transport without thing the transport itself. Althought I would love the HD 880 , Both woofers would need at least foam and probably voice coils as sitting for that long they are surly frozen up by now. Audio componets are made to have current run through them. With out some power ,however little ,that can be damaged without it. Good luck

  9. If anyone is interested in a perfect condition Marantz 2500 receiver ,works perfectly . It’s a 10 give me an email at mikielikesit6971 at hotmail.com thank you for your interest

  10. And now they are climbing ever higher. I just bought a 2240, 600, a 2330b for 1500, and a 2385 for 2500……they are not getting cheaper. Looking for a 25 or 26 hundred…

  11. I have a Marantz 2325 that was only used a few times in 1977 and put back in the box . The insides look spotless and smell like new electronics . It has the plastic face cover that comes with its original inner and outer boxes and foam cocoon . I really don’t want to use it cause it may get scratched or whatever . Must be kinda like how comic book guys don’t read their prized ” possessions . Though its easier to take a comic book out of the protective wrapper than some heavy well tucked in receiver.
