The Harman Kardon HK-590i was produced in 1982 and the design differed quite a bit from HK’s earlier receivers. It featured a digital synthesized quartz locked FM tuner and 45 watts per channel. It measures 17.5″ W x 13″ D x 5.5″ H inches.
Harman Kardon was started by two men – Dr. Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon in 1953. They are credited with bringing true hi fidelity equipment to the general public.
Harman Kardon is still very active in the audio and home theater market today but it is of course the older vintage components that most collectors are after. While the 590i and other i series receivers aren’t in great demand they still have a fairly loyal following. Prices range from $100 to $300.
And then the 80’s rolled in. Space shuttle style design with all its push buttons and the dawn of mass production.
There’s something to be said about the dial’s of the 70’s which made those receivers look so very slick.
Thanks and Keep them coming!
